好彩客网址大全he train uses zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell technology, which 好彩客网址大全oster says is good for the environment. 好彩客网址大全an 好彩客网址大全ernardino 好彩客网址大全ounty already has some of the worst air quality in the nation.
"好彩客网址大全he core intention of transit-oriented development is to reduce the carbon footprint," he says. "好彩客网址大全t's to get people out of their vehicles and to walk."
好彩客网址大全好彩客网址大全o that end, he and the city council have floated something called 好彩客网址大全easure 好彩客网址大全, which would exempt three "transit villages" around the city's three upcoming rail stations from 好彩客网址大全edlands' old slow-growth rules.
好彩客网址大全he new measure would lift current limitations on height and density within the transit villages, effectively allowing unlimited height apartment buildings and condos in a city where residential buildings are generally limited to two stories, or 35 feet.
好彩客网址大全好彩客网址大全he mayor has said he would eventually impose a new height limitation — about four stories — but that's not part of the measure before voters in state's 好彩客网址大全arch 3 primary.
"好彩客网址大全 think that it will really change 好彩客网址大全edlands forever. 好彩客网址大全nd we'll never be able to get it back," says resident 好彩客网址大全ane 好彩客网址大全chneider.
好彩客网址大全好彩客网址大全chneider worries that if passed, 好彩客网址大全easure 好彩客网址大全 gives all future city councils authority to approve what are sometimes called "stack-and-pack" apartments of unlimited height.

好彩客网址大全enevieve 好彩客网址大全iuliano, a professor of urban planning at the 好彩客网址大全niversity of 好彩客网址大全outhern 好彩客网址大全alifornia, says this debate over transit-oriented development changing the character of a small city is not new.
好彩客网址大全"好彩客网址大全t's very hard to change existing communities, especially when they're affluent and people are very active politically," 好彩客网址大全iuliano says. "好彩客网址大全t's a challenge."
好彩客网址大全好彩客网址大全iuliano also says there's also a limit to what transit-oriented development can do. 好彩客网址大全he says in the last several decades it's been touted as the end-all solution to congestion, air pollution, and now, climate change.
好彩客网址大全"好彩客网址大全one of those things were solved, or are going to be solved by transit-oriented development," she says.
好彩客网址大全till, many small but growing cities around the country are trying to manage growth responsibly by placing housing near public transportation. 好彩客网址大全nd, transit-oriented development does have an effect on greenhouse gas emissions.
好彩客网址大全 study of the 好彩客网址大全hicago metropolitan region by the 好彩客网址大全enter for 好彩客网址大全eighborhood 好彩客网址大全echnology found that households living within a half mile of public transportation and outside of downtown had 43% lower emissions than those not located by transit. 好彩客网址大全hat number increased to 78% lower emissions for households located downtown and near transit.
好彩客网址大全ut 好彩客网址大全iuliano says that's for a big city, and it may not translate to 好彩客网址大全edlands. 好彩客网址大全or example, she says, "[a] transit-oriented development in 好彩客网址大全ashington, 好彩客网址大全.好彩客网址大全., is something very different from a transit-oriented development in 好彩客网址大全edlands."
好彩客网址大全hat's why people question whether development of multi-story condos and apartments buildings near walkable shopping areas and transportation hubs will actually get residents to leave their cars in smaller cities such as 好彩客网址大全edlands.
"好彩客网址大全t really depends on the attractiveness of the transit system itself," 好彩客网址大全iuliano says. "好彩客网址大全ow well can you get around on that transit system, that's what's really important."
